Ep. 093: Open Ocean Kayaking - Peter Bray
As a former soldier in the British Special Forces, a military diver and lifelong adventurer, Peter Bray has led a very full life doing what he loves. He now works as a security consultant and outdoor pursuits instructor. In his 56 years, there are few extreme challenges that he has not attempted. Pete’s exploits have taken him from the frozen wastes of Norway to the searing heat of the African bush. Listen in as Pete tells some of the best stories of harrowing ocean crossings and even about his trouble with the British police at age 11.
Have you ever wanted to just quit your job, sell your house and head out on an adventure for a decade? Yeah, me too. Today we chat with someone who actually did that and is still doing it, Brian Trautman. After being unsatisfied with the “perfect job”, house, car, etc., he came across a book about sailing across the ocean and knew that was what he needed to do with his life. He sold everything he owned, bought a boat, and sailed to New Zealand from Seattle. That first experience started a trend that would extend for more than a decade and lead to countless adventures that have been chronicled on his YouTube channel: Sailing SV Delos, gaining over 100 million views in the process. To date, Brian has visited 6 continents, 40 countries, and crossed every ocean on his 53 foot Ketch. Kristin Knight Pace is one tough person. Not many people would go to Alaska during the winter, completely alone, to take care of a team of sled dogs to get over a recent divorce. However, that's exactly what she did. That toughness has also led her to become one of only 29 women to complete both the Iditarod and the Yukon Question 1000-mile sled dog races. Kristin is now remarried and has started a new journey, motherhood. She also works as a wilderness planner for Denali National Park and has recently written a book about her experiences, This Much Country. It can be found following the link below or pretty much anywhere else you buy books.
