Ep. 548: Self-Supported Paddleboarding Adventure in Nepal - Liam Kirkham

Usually, we hear from folks climbing the record-breaking peaks of the Himalayas when we talk about Nepal. However, today is a little different. We’re actually heading downhill and talking about an epic river trip by Liam Kirkham, a veteran guest of the show and a fantastic storyteller. He was previously on episode 344 talking about solo winter kayaking trip through the Grand Canyon.

Liam recently became a father and was trying to combat what so many people tell him, “you’ll have no time for that” or “your priorities will change”. He’s learned that they were half right. As a way to ensure he’d do something epic to kickoff fatherhood, he bought a non-refundable plane ticket to Nepal and let the idea of the journey grow from there.

A few months earlier he had intended to do a paddleboard trip down the River Thames but life had gotten in the way, however, the remnants of a paddleboard trip were still lingering in his mind. He started reading guidebooks and looking at maps for a river that would be suitable. He also began looking for someone to go with him. After several pints of beer with a good friend (with no experience) he convinced him to join. The adventure was on!
